The Sleeve Gastrectomy is a solution for overweight people. Especially for people who have already tried different diets and do not manage to lose enough weight.
Sleeve Gastrectomy is a common procedure for weight loss. This operation is extremely safe and effective, performed by the laparoscopic technique.
During this operation we reduce the stomach to a "sleeve-shape", hence the name. Only 4 incisions of one centimeter and one incision of five cm are made in the abdomen. With staples we create this smaller stomach. The continuity to the esophagus and small intestine is maintained. Just like the sphincter muscle at the transition from the stomach to the small intestine. The part of the stomach that remains is less extensible. Because of this the stomach will empty less quickly and no Dumping Syndrome can occur.
This adaptation mainly ensures that the amount of food you can eat during a meal is greatly reduced. Without feeling hungry and with a prolonged feeling of satiety. Everything you eat is also digested. So, there can be no food shortages.
The results of a stomach reduction are often spectacular. You will eat less and eventually lose 70 to 80% of your excess weight.
In order to obtain the best results, good postoperative support is important. Usually you come back for consultation after 1, 2, 3 and 6 months so that we can follow you up properly. We always discuss the next step towards "your new self". Of course, you can always ask questions.
During the first consultation in the Wellness Kliniek, this procedure and what it entails will be clearly discussed.
Gastric bypass is particularly suitable for people who still have difficulty getting rid of their excess weight despite repeated diets. It is especially useful for people who are addicted to sweets, pasta and sugary drinks.
Gastric bypass is a commonly performed surgery for weight loss and is extremely safe and efficient. With this operation, the volume of the stomach is reduced to the size of a shot glass with a volume of 15 to 25 ml. Only four incisions of one centimeter and one incision of three centimeters are made in the abdomen. A small gastric reservoir and a new stomach outlet are then created. With the help of small clamps, we ensure that this part no longer has any connection to the rest of the stomach. The new small stomach outlet ensures that the stomach does not empty too quickly (Dumping Syndrome).
Because of these two adjustments, the food will feel more satisfying over a longer period of time. You will eat less, which will make you lose weight. The food goes straight into the small intestine via the small stomach outlet. After that, it will no longer pass through the rest of the stomach and the duodenum. This part is thus bridged or "bypassed".
The end of the duodenum is reconnected to the small intestine, 80 to 150 cm further than the connection between the new stomach and the small intestinal part. This new connection ensures that the necessary digestive juices are added to the food. This is necessary for a normal and healthy digestion.
After a gastric bypass you will eat less food than before. As a result, you will eventually lose 70 to 80% of your excess weight. The absorption of fats will be reduced and you will have a lasting feeling of satiety.
After the operation, Wellness Kliniek offers post-operative care. In this way we can follow the recovery well. As a rule, you will return for a consultation after 1, 2, 3 and 6 months. We will then discuss the next step towards "your new self" each time. Of course, there is always the possibility to ask questions.
At the first consultation in Wellness Kliniek everything will be clearly discussed and you can ask all necessary questions.
During your consultation, you will meet the surgeon who will perform your surgery. The consultation will start with you expressing your desired result.
Your surgeon will then perform a medical examination to assess whether you are a suitable candidate.
During your consultation you can expect:
Depending on the type of treatment, your surgery will be performed under intravenous sleep sedation, local or general anaesthesia. More information about all types of anesthesia can be found on this page.
Your anaesthetist will insert a needle into your arm through which the medication will be injected. It takes about 10 seconds to take effect.
After surgery, incisions are closed with dissoluble sutures and necessary plasters and bandages are applied. When general anaesthesia or intravenous sleep sedation is applied, the anaesthetist will start the wake up process and you will be transferred to the recovery area where you will be closely monitored.
After surgery, you will be taken to the recovery area where you will be closely monitored by our medical staff. If the surgery took place under general anaesthesia or intravenous sleep sedation, your bodily functions will routinely be monitored whilst you start to awake.
Once you are fully conscious, you will be taken to your room where you can continue resting until you feel fit to go home.
Some surgeries require patients to stay overnight.
For optimal healing and aesthetic outcome, it is important to strictly follow your surgeon’s post-operative guidelines. These guidelines may vary from patient to patient.
All stitches are dissoluble so you don't need to visit your family doctor or a nurse to remove them. Depending on the type of surgery you might be expected to return for a follow-up consultation. You will be informed accordingly by our team members.
We are there to support you day and night. Our doctors and staff will advise and assist you until you are fully recovered.
Our team of aesthetic surgeons are amongst the most experienced and qualified in their field. They will make sure that you are well-informed, offered honest advice, assured, comfortable and safe during every stage of your procedure.
