The first days after breast enlargement
After waking up, you will be closely monitored by our surgeon, anaesthetist and nursing team. Once you are fully conscious, you will be taken to your room where you can rest. After the breast enlargement, you are not allowed to drive yourself, so it is best to bring someone with you to accompany you. You will always be allowed to go home the same day.
Breast enlargement medication
Just after the procedure, your breasts will still feel a bit sore and tense. You will be prescribed the necessary medication to make it as comfortable as possible. For the first few days after the breast enlargement, we recommend taking plenty of rest. This means you should not drive a car or perform straining physical tasks. Do continue to exercise normally, as this is good for circulation and contributes to the recovery process.
Scars after breast enlargement
Wellness Kliniek uses the in-house developed MIBIS technique. With this technique, the length of the incision is minimised. In the case of a breast enlargement with implants, we make an incision of no more than 2 to 3 cm. At Wellness Kliniek, we use only self-dissolving sutures. After 2 to 3 weeks, the externally visible pieces of wire may be cut off. The sutures dissolve on their own after a few weeks.
The scars are barely noticeable because of the location and colour. After 3 to 9 months, the scar is almost invisible. When the wounds have healed and the scabs are gone, we recommend using a moisturising gel, cream or scar oil. This is certainly not a necessity, but it can help the healing process of the scar for some patients. Massaging the breasts is not necessary, the body takes care of the healing itself.
So don't worry about scarring after a breast enlargement! Our technique leaves only a minimal, almost imperceptible scar.
Swelling after breast enlargement
After surgery, the breasts will be slightly swollen and feel strained. This is perfectly normal as your body still has some getting used to your new breasts. The swelling will be especially noticeable at the top of the breast. This can make it seem like your breasts are a little higher at first. The swelling will go down after a few days to a few weeks.
The tight feeling of your breasts may last a little longer than the swelling. Your skin and chest muscle will gradually adjust to the breast prostheses. This takes time.
When do the prostheses descend?
The prostheses are placed in the correct place during surgery but often sit higher temporarily at first due to muscle action. The lowering will happen gradually and may take up to 6 months. Temporary differences between breasts are possible during the first 6 months and are not a cause for concern.
Pressure bandage and sports bra after a breast enlargement
After your breast enlargement, you have to be patient a little bit longer before you can start wearing nice bras. It is best to wait 6 to 8 weeks for this. You must keep pressure on the mammary gland and the prosthesis for the first few weeks.
After the breast enlargement, we often apply a compression bandage or pressure bandage. This bandage ensures a more beautiful result and prevents possible infections and bleeding. The compression bandage is wrapped tightly around your breasts and should be worn for 14 days. After the bandage is removed, we recommend wearing a sports bra day and night for at least 6 weeks.
Breast enlargement complications
Any surgical procedure comes with certain risks. After treatment, there is always a chance of complications. A post-operative bleeding or wound infection are the most common complications, even though they are rare. The bleeding can occur the day of the operation or the day after. The result of a breast enlargement is immediately visible. Your breasts will need some time to fully recover. The healing process is different for everyone. The final result of a breast enlargement is visible after several months.
