General anesthetic or intravenous sedation?
Eyelid correction can be performed with intravenous sedation.
At the Wellness Kliniek we work with modern pain management techniques. This means that you experience a minimum of inconvenience right after your procedure as well as during the next few days. You can opt for a local anaesthetic, intravenous sedation or a general anaesthetic in consultation with the anaesthetist or plastic surgeon.
- Local anaesthetic: you are awake
- Intravenous sedation: you are sedated
- General anaesthetic: you are unconscious
At the Wellness Kliniek your comfort is paramount
An eyelid correction is usually performed under a local anaesthetic.
However, lots of people do find the liquid anaesthetic injections uncomfortable. If you prefer, your eyelid correction can also be performed under intravenous sedation. In this case you are sedated, as under a general anaesthetic. The difference from a general anaesthetic is that with intravenous sedation you can be easily roused during the procedure yet you feel no pain at all. The major advantage is that after the procedure you soon feel fit and well and are able to return home.
In the case of an eyelid correction performed via the inside of the eye it may be necessary to perform the procedure under a general anaesthetic.
At the Wellness Kliniek your comfort is paramount! You can inform the plastic surgeon of your personal preference.
The importance of being nil by mouth
If you have eaten, there is a chance that gastric fluid will enter the lungs when you are anaesthetised. Therefore, you should always be nil by mouth before having an operation. You must not eat or drink anything eight hours before surgery.
