Forehead lift: Lift to correct Wrinkles in the Forehead

In the past a forehead and eyebrow lift was quite an invasive procedure. The plastic surgeon made an incision across the entire crown, from one ear to the other to correct the muscle and skin. The long scar which resulted was often rather distressing especially for men who became bald later in life.

The invention of the endoscope made the procedure safer and less invasive without the worry of distressing scars.

Gravity, loss of elasticity in the skin, overactivity of the expression muscles and genetic factors all contribute to causing permanent wrinkles on the forehead and drooping eyebrows. The endoscopic method corrects these signs of aging. 

The forehead, area around the eyes and eyebrows can be corrected by the endoscopic method.

The surgeon inserts a small endoscope with instruments under the skin through a number of tiny incisions in the hairline . The muscles and fatty tissue are visible to the surgeon on a video monitor through the lens.

Using fine instruments the plastic surgeon can correct subcutaneous tissue on the forehead and the eyebrows.

In this way the expression wrinkles on the forehead and the frown are reduced or even disappear completely and the eyebrows are lifted at the same time.

The procedure takes about 1 – 1 ½ hours and is performed on an outpatient basis.

With more effective pain relief a light form of anaesthesia is sufficient. Unlike traditional anaesthesia your breathing will not be controlled mechanically. You will carry on breathing and swallowing while you are asleep and you won't feel any pain. A couple of hours after the procedure you feel fit and well and do not experience any of the unpleasant side-effects of a general anaesthetic.

The surgeon inserts an elastic, antibiotic thread under the skin using a special long needle which he then uses to pull the sagging muscles of the eyebrows and cheeks back into place underneath the skin, and attaches them to a fixed anatomical point.

Special long, fine needles make it possible to work quite far under the skin, and as a result incisions in the skin are usually unnecessary. The slow-dissolving antibiotic stitches are inserted with a long needle so you don't need a full endoscopic forehead lift.

The special antibiotic stitches dissolve very slowly so that they disappear when the biological process has taken over their job and the newly formed tissue can hold the structures in place. This also means that the body doesn't reject the stitches at a later stage.

Botox for wrinkles

Botox or Dysport injections can paralyse the muscles which cause your wrinkles for about three to nine months.

• This means your wrinkles are reduced or disappear completely.
• Your skin is smoother and tighter.
• After 4 to 6 months you can have the treatment repeated.
• The Botox effect lasts a bit longer after each treatment.
