A facelift will reverse many features of the aging face and neck.  Therefore a SMAS facelift is often combined with a SMAS neck lift.

THE FACE

A Facelift does not only correct the SKIN, but also the MUSCLES, subcutaneous FAT and CONNECTIVE TISSUES are put back in place.

The SKIN is partially released. Excessive skin is removed.

During a SMAS - or SUB- SMAS LIFT the underlying muscles are being lifted and stitched.

Dissolvable THREADS provide extra support to the jaw- and cheek contour.

During a facelift, other names are SMAS lift, sub- SMAS, subcutaneous lift or Deep plane lift, the skin of the face is separated from the fat and muscle below.  The surgeon makes multiple incisions, often also behind the ear and under the chin.  Underlying tissues are tugged in place, the skin is pulled back and the excess is removed.

Underlying SMAS tissues (SMAS: Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) weight more than the skin.  Lifting and firming the SMAS tissues will lead to a more firm appearance of the skin.

Excessive skin is removed only after the underlying muscles and membranes are being tightened.

Subcutaneous threads can provide extra support.  This procedure is called the feather – Facelift or suspension Facelift.

The slow dissolvable threads are strongly attached underneath the skin.

The special elastic, anti-biotic threads are slowly dissolvable.  They disappear automatically after natural collagen synthesis has taken place.

This prevents any possible rejection of the threads.

There are multiple surgery techniques possible as a procedure for a face / neck lift. Your surgeon will discuss with you which technique will best enhance your appearance.

THE NECK

When your neck needs work, the surgeon makes a small incision underneath the chin, to correct the underlying muscle and redefine the neckline.  The skin lift is then accomplished with a small incision under the chin and behind or underneath the ear, if necessary extending into the hairline

		A  PLATYSMA  neck lift corrects only the lower section of fat and muscle. A SMAS neck lift combined with the platysma lift corrects: Sagging cheeks, Sagging jaws – jowls. Platysma or neck banding; a turkey waddle The position of subcutaneous fat and the position of the skin The SMAS of the firmness of the underlying muscles of the face and the neck Excess fat tissue under the chin
2/3 face-  and neck lift.

A facelift or SMAS lift in combination with a SMAS neck lift often provides the most beautiful results. The surgery is often performed in combination with an endoscopic brow lift and an eyelid correction. Deep wrinkles, creases, can be treated with a permanent filler or Botox.

During a second procedure the surgeon can improve the quality of your skin with a deep skin peeling, also known as Tel Avis Mask.

THE SEDATION

With more efficient painkilling, intravenous sedation is sufficient rather than having to undergo general anaesthesia.

Contrary to traditional narcosis, in which a tube is brought into the throat and connected to a breathing apparatus, you actually breathe on your own.  While you sleep you breathe independently and feel no pain.  A few hours after the surgery you feel fine and have been spared the side effects of general anesthesia. With the help of modern sedation techniques, long and extensive surgery is possible without taking unnecessary risks. Also combined surgeries are possible Thanks to the new sedation techniques that we use at the Wellness Kliniek no general anaesthesia is necessary which makes it interesting especially for patients with multiple interventions. Facelifts are often combined with other procedures: a breast surgery, a tummy tuck and other procedures… Thanks to intravenous sedation, surgery has become safer.  Multiple procedures in one session have the advantage that you need to refrain from social and professional activities only once.
