Full lips are sensual. A pretty
smile is very attractive.
Enhancing mouth and lips is therefore very popular.
Lip enhancement can substantially improve your facial look. It
is important, when contemplating such treatment to be fully informed
about the method and the results to be expected. A thorough consultation
with your plastic surgeon is therefore essential.
The 3 main lip enhancing procedures
are:
- Injectable fillers for TEMPORARY
result.
The injection has effect from 6 weeks up to 18 months varying
from person to person and
depending on the product chosen.
- Injectable fillers for a more PERMANENT
result.
- Plastic surgical corrections to enhance
lips, mouth and smile.
Injections with Collagen‚ Hylaform®‚
Hyaluron, Perlane®‚ Rofilan®, etc. provide TEMPORARY
lip enhancement. Lipostructure, Soft Form®, Dermalive®,
Alloderm®, Aquamid®, Bio Alcamid® etc. give a more
PERMANENT result.
A lip injection takes between 3 and 10 minutes, depending on
the extent of the treated area and the chosen filling substance.
After treatment swelling of the lips may be expected. Sometimes
the area around the injection can show somewhat blue. This can
be camouflaged with lipstick and will disappear within a few days.
Most people go back to work immediately after treatment.
BIO- ALCAMID® Hydrogel is
the most popular PERMANENT filler!
In the Wellness Kliniek
Bio –Alcamid ® is the preferred choice for permanent
lip enhancement.
Bio-Alcamid® is a modern hydrogel (based on water)
and has, in our experience, no side effects or allergic
reactions. This is unique for a lip filling material!
Another advantage of Bio-Alcamid is that the material,
if necessary, can be removed easily. This is contrary to
other permanent substances which will fix themselves into
the surrounding tissues.
Bio-Alcamid® hydrogel,
the best option for a soft, natural looking , permanent
result!
The injectable gel (97% water en 3% poly-alkylimide) forms
a soft, body friendly “implant”.
Bio-Alcamid® hydrogel is ideal for
filling lips, deep wrinkles, grooves, scars, cavities and
cheekbone and chin enhancement.
HYALURONIC ACID is the most chosen
TEMPORARY filler!
In the Wellness Kliniek
is the popular hyaluronic acid the most used filler
for temporary result.
Hyaluronic acid is
a material which is present in our skin and therefore fulfils
the role of “liquid binder”. This explains at
the same time the use of this material in skin creams and
anti aging lotions. Hyaluron acid produces a smooth, tighter
skin with natural appearance. It’s safe and causes
no allergic reactions, contrary to collagen.
HYLAFORM®, REVIDERM®,
PERLANE®, RESTYLANE®, JUVEDERM® etc. are all different brands of the same basic material: Hyaluronic
acid.
Different brands; different
prices! The basic material is identical!
LIPOTRANSFER gives a SEMI -
PERMANENT result.
Injecting the body’s own fat is a semi – permanent
solution. The aging process continues, therefore a repeated
treatment can be required.
Fat is a natural filling
substance; it is your own, it is soft and feels smooth.
Lipofilling: your own body
fat is harvested and immediately after, injected into the
treatment area without being purified. Since the harvested
material doesn’t exist of 100 % fat cells, the injected
substance partly disappears. A second treatment is often
needed to obtain the desired result.
Lipostructure: fat cells
are harvested in the same way. Before injection the substance
is purified by centrifuging. This technique insures that
only viable fat cells are left to be re-injected. This technique
–The Coleman method- ensures a more exact and longer
lasting result.
Other permanent fillers
SILICONE –OIL (PMS) was for years the most used, and still is the cheapest filler.
Through complaints, especially in the USA, in connection
with migration of the silicone-oil, the product came in
discredit.
Although, no scientific study has yet proven the relevance
between rheumatoid arthritis and silicone-oil; we do advice
our patients to choose a more modern permanent filler.
Lumpy reactions do occur regularly.
DERMALIVE® is used
for lips, wrinkles and grooves since 1997. It consists of
biodegradable Hyaluronic acid (60%) and non biodegradable,
acryl-hydro-gel, particles (40%). These particles will grow
into the surrounding tissue permanently.
The body produces a capsule around the artificial particles
and the Hyaluronic acid will be absorbed by the body, after
a few months. Therefore the effect is more permanent after
a few treatments.
Sometimes the body reacts with
capsule formation (hyper-fibrosis) around the artificial
particles. The subcutaneous lumps may become palpable and
even visible, leading to an undesired result.
ARTECOLL®, used for
lips and wrinkles since 1994, follows the same principle
as Dermalive®. In Artecoll® the carrier product
is collagen.
Collagen is derived from animal tissue and contains animal
proteins. Therefore an allergy test is required before use.
Because of the possible side effects of allergic reaction
and hyper fibrosis, doctors in the Wellness Kliniek prefer
a more modern filler.
SOFTFORM® is a soft
implant which consists of an inert, body friendly polymer
which has been used for over 30 years in heart surgery.
Softform® is mostly used as a filling material to correct
sharp, deep folds and thin lips.
A Softform® implant is a little tube which is inserted
under the skin under local anaesthesia. The implant will
grow into the surrounding tissues.
Softform® remains palpable through the skin. Removal
of the structure, ones grown in, may not be simple and require
experienced plastic surgery.
AQUAMID® consists
of 97.5% water with 2.5% transparent polyacrulamide gel,
and has been used for over than 10 years as permanent filler.
The filling substance will grow into the surrounding tissue
and will therefore not migrate. Equally it will be difficult
to remove.
On occasion, allergic reaction has been observed, with
complete resorption of the product. Not recommended.
TEMPORARY
FILLERS
HYLAFORM®, REVIDERM®,
PERLANE®, RESTYLANE®, JUVEDERM® are different
brands of Hyaluronic acid.
Different makes; different prices! The basic substance
is identical.
Hyaluronic acid is biodegradable, without no known side
effects and is still the most frequently chosen injectable
filler which will last from 6 weeks to 6 months.
COLLAGEN, an extract
of animal tissue, was for years the most used filler for
lips and wrinkles.
Because Collagen contains animal protein, an allergy test
is required before injection.
Because our doctors work according the ISO 9001 quality
control procedures, we prefer fillers with less risk of
allergic reaction and other side effects such as subcutaneous
lumps.
NEW-FILL® is a product
based on lactic acid. Lactic acid is a material which is
present in our body. This means that it’s safe and
causes no allergic reactions.
Lactic acid stimulates the formation of connective tissue.
The filling happens through the body’s own synthesis.
It takes about 4 to 6 weeks before the connective tissue
is completely laid down and the lactic acid has spent its
activity.
First a small dose of New Fill will be injected, because
each person reacts differently. After 6 weeks, our doctor
evaluates the amount of connective tissue that your body
has produced. With a second injection the dose can be raised,
to obtain the desired effect.
Sometimes more treatments are required before the desired
result is reached. The effect lasts about 12-18 months.
Lumpy reaction occurs relatively frequently, but tends
to pass off with time.
SURGICAL
CORRECTION OF THE LIPS
LIP PLASTY: Do you have
full lips or shortage of red lip contour? Then you can consider
a plastic surgical correction to increase or reduce the
size of your lips.
Increasing the size of lips can be obtained by turning
the inside of the red lip contour to the outside.
LIFTING OF THE UPPER LIP Aging
can cause lengthening of the upper lip and narrowing of
the red lip contour. This can be solved by a simple “butterfly
procedure”.
The upper lip is shortened under local anaesthetic. This
treatment restores the youthful proportion between the upper
lip and the red lip contour without a striking scar.
The incision will be mostly hidden in the nose fold.
CORRECTION
“GUMMY SMILE”: when to much red gums
are showing, when smiling, plastic surgery can help to enhance
your smile. It is not because your teeth are to short that
you have a gummy smile. Usually, you just have a muscle
imbalance. The red gums/white teeth appearance shows a high
lip line when smiling.
The plastic surgeon will weaken the muscle of the upper
lip (myotomy), between the gums and the upper lip, to correct
this imbalance. The incision is made inside the mouth, so
the scar doesn’t show. The “corner smile”
(movement of the corners of the mouth) stays intact, for
a beautiful, natural smile.
Lip and smile enhancement is very popular
in our clinic! The Wellness Kliniek carries the ISO 9001 & 14001
Certificate. This means that all procedures, materials and equipment
are checked for effectiveness, safety and patient satisfaction.
